The BrightBridge Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public charitable foundation affiliated with BrightBridge Credit Union that fosters financial wellness and promotes financial literacy and community involvement. Founded in 2011, the BrightBridge Foundation is a natural outgrowth of the Credit Union’s commitment to community activities and financial literacy as a key component of financial health efforts.

1955: MVCU is founded as the Communications Workers Employee Credit Union by Union Local 1365 in North Andover, MA. The name quickly changed to Merrimack Valley Credit Union. G. Harvey Ellis was our first General Manager.
1962: We reached the $1 million in assets milestone! Duncan MacLeod is now the General Manager.
1990s: Our field of membership opened up to serve more than 200 employer groups in the Merrimack Valley as well as their family members.
2005: MVCU converted to a community charter, allowing us to serve eligible members in the Merrimack Valley. Peter J. Matthews Jr. is the President & CEO.
2007: Our Corporate Office moved to Lawrence, MA, and we have five branches.
2016: We opened our sixth branch in Seabrook, NH.
2018: MVCU became a state-chartered credit union.
2019: MVCU merged with Bridgewater Credit Union, allowing us to serve members both in the Merrimack Valley and the south-shore region of Massachusetts. John J. Howard became our President & CEO.
2020: MVCU merged with the Ocean Spray Employees Federal Credit Union, expanding our field of membership to include all Ocean Spray employees and contract growers.
2021: MVCU expanded the field of membership to include additional counties in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
2023: MVCU merged with RTN Federal Credit Union to welcome 40,000 additional members of RTN's Select Employer Groups and community members.
2025: MVCU merged with Cabot Boston Credit Union, providing 800 new members with a wider choice of products and services as well as greater convenience.
2025: MVCU becomes BrightBridge Credit Union.
2026: BrightBridge Credit Union (BrightBridge) merges with Arrha Credit Union (Arrha). The newly merged credit union will operate under the BrightBridge Credit Union name with 23 retail branches, combined assets of nearly $2.4 billion and approximately 125,000 members.

BrightBridge Credit Union (BrightBridge) continued its longstanding commitment to community service by sponsoring a community meal on Monday, April 27, at the Haverhill Citizen Center on Welcome Street. This year’s event marked BrightBridge’s fourth consecutive year supporting the weekly meal program. As part of the evening, BrightBridge provided financial support and team member volunteers to assist with preparing and serving dinner to local residents. The free public meals are organized by the nonprofit Community Meals, Inc., which partners with local chefs and businesses to ensure community members have access to a warm meal in a welcoming setting.
BrightBridge Credit Union (BrightBridge) proudly celebrates Consumer Underwriting Manager Matthew “Marathon Matt” Medeiros for successfully completing the 2026 Boston Marathon, capping off months of fundraising and community engagement that resulted in $34,521 raised for Boston Children’s Hospital. Through Medeiros’ participation as part of Credit Unions Kids at Heart (CUKH) and BrightBridge’s organization wide Chain of Hearts fundraiser, nearly $20,000 was raised by BrightBridge team members, members and community supporters. That total was further amplified by a $15,000 match from Credit Unions Kids at Heart, making the collective impact even greater for pediatric neurological research, care and family support at Boston Children’s Hospital.
BrightBridge Credit Union (BrightBridge) is pleased to announce that Matthew Coggins has joined the organization as Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications, bringing more than 18 years of experience leading marketing and communications efforts within the financial services industry. Coggins has built a career focused on helping financial institutions elevate their brands and connect more meaningfully with the communities they serve. Most recently, he served as Chief Marketing & Communications Officer at Enterprise Bank, where he supported the organization through periods of growth while navigating rapid advancements in technology and evolving member expectations.
BrightBridge Credit Union (BrightBridge) recently donated hundreds of reusable tote bags to the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) in support of its Mobile Food Market, helping Lawrence residents easily carry fresh produce and essential food items home. The tote bags were distributed during GLFHC’s Mobile Food Market held on Saturday, March 28, at the health center’s flagship location at 34 Haverhill Street in Lawrence, where nearly 500 families were served.
Last week, the BrightBridge Foundation presented the inaugural Officer Paul Tracey Memorial Scholarships to two graduates of Waltham High School, honoring the legacy of Officer Paul Tracey and supporting students committed to serving their communities. The scholarship recipients are Samuel Rizza and Braeden Cunningham, both members of the Waltham High School Class of 2025. Rizza is currently attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy and plans to continue a proud family tradition as a third-generation firefighter. Cunningham is enrolled at Merrimack College, where he is studying criminal justice with the goal of working in law enforcement.
