The credit union hired new managers for the Danvers, Quincy and Waltham branches. Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) is pleased to announce the hiring of three new branch managers to oversee branches in Danvers, Quincy and Waltham. Denise Scurio will manage Danvers, Stephen Spagnolo will manage Quincy and Gregory Kennedy will manage Waltham.

Denise Scurio (center photo, above) has spent her entire career in the financial services industry. She began working at Belmont Savings Bank as a part-time teller while she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Framingham State University. She went on to work as a full-time teller for several years before becoming interested in customer service platforms and management. Prior to joining MVCU, Scurio spent three years as an assistant manager for North Shore Bank.

After spending more than a decade in the world of banking, Scurio was excited to expand upon her knowledge and experience in the credit union setting. So far, Scurio says she has “hit the jackpot” with her Danvers branch team and is looking forward to continuing to grow and learn in her role. “I am an aggressive learner,” Scurio says. “I’m excited to learn more about what MVCU has to offer and help my team reach our goals.” When she is not working, Scurio, who lives in Peabody, Mass., enjoys cross fit, cooking, trying new restaurants and spending time with her husband and their three adult children.

Stephen Spagnolo (left photo, above) has more than two decades of experience in banking and finance, having spent the past seven years as a branch manager at TD Bank. When the opportunity to join MVCU arose, Spagnolo jumped at the chance to join a financial institution that is deeply involved in its communities and passionate about employee career development.

In his new role, Spagnolo is looking forward to expanding his branch’s presence within the Quincy community by getting involved in local events and with organizations including the Quincy Rotary Club and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce. He is also looking forward to utilizing his connections with local middle and high schools—where he’s coached basketball, baseball and football for several years—to support students with financial education programs.

Spagnolo grew up in Seekonk, Mass. and earned his associate’s degree in business administration from Bristol Community College. In his free time, Spagnolo enjoys spending time with his four children and staying active through working out and bicycling.

Gregory Kennedy (right photo, above) began his 24-year career in finance as a teller at AmeriCU Credit Union in Syracuse, NY. He has held many positions including branch manager, loan officer and regional manager at numerous community banks and credit unions. Prior to joining the MVCU, Kennedy spent more than seven years as the senior vice president of retail at Mutual One Bank. When he was ready for a new position, Kennedy was interested in a workplace culture that truly valued its staff and their career development—something that Kennedy himself enjoys helping others with as a manager and financial leader.

A standout moment in Kennedy’s career so far is when he hired someone for an entry-level position at Mutual One Bank who had no previous experience in banking. Within three years of the hire, the staff member had worked their way up to become the bank’s vice president of training. “This staff member was always taking copious notes, studying everything they learned while working and absorbing so much knowledge,” says Kennedy. “It reminded me that it’s not about how long you’ve been at a company, but rather how you’re doing at that company. I love finding ways to elevate people as we did that staff member.” In his new position at MVCU, Kennedy is looking forward to continuing his work to empower and grow his Waltham team and getting involved with the Waltham community.

Kennedy, who now resides in Goffstown, N.H., grew up in Syracuse, NY and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management at Le Moyne College. He went on to earn his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Kennedy enjoys watching sports and spending time with his two children.
